Join Steven McNeil, Chief Curator & Director of Exhibits at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV), for a discussion on the Gallery’s collection of midcentury art and design works. McNeil will speak to how the AGGV’s permanent collection came to acquire key midcentury works by Victoria-based artists such as Pat Martin Bates, Maxwell Bates, Jack Kidder, Peter Cotton, and Jan and Helga Grove as well as Vancouver artists including B. C. Binning, Molly Lamb Bobak, and Jack Shadbolt. A selection of these works is currently on display in the exhibition A View From Here: Reimagining the AGGV Collections. Steven McNeil was also the curator of the AGGV exhibition Heart of the House: Art and the West Coast Modern Home, 2023, which brought together a mixture of art and objects made for midcentury modern domestic interiors from BC and offers Design Victoria participants a unique expertise and perspective into this period of design and artworks in the AGGV’s care.
This event is free, with admission to the Art Gallery.
