From Spaces to Places: How does architecture shape our lives? Can good design foster stronger, more connected communities?

Join BEA West for a special screening of The White Flats, a documentary short about the Whittington Estate in the UK. Made by the residents themselves, the film explores how a thoughtfully designed housing development transformed the occupants’ lives, creating a deep sense of belonging and community. Through personal stories, it reveals how architecture can impact social connection, well-being, and everyday life.

Following the screening, a panel discussion with architects, urban designers, housing advocates, and community leaders will explore how these ideas apply to Victoria today. How can we design spaces that promote inclusivity, connection, and well-being? What lessons can we apply to local housing and urban development? Moderated by Ann Squires Ferguson, the discussion will include audience Q&A, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue.

Enjoy networking and light refreshments following the panel discussion. This event is open to all — residents, students, designers, planners, community advocates, or anyone curious about the built environment’s impact. Let’s spark a conversation on creating more connected, inclusive neighbourhoods in Victoria.

This event has an option to buy a ticket with the funds being donated to the Intercultural Association (ICA). Make an impact together at this event and help BEA West raise $800 for the amazing work done at the ICA!
