WEST COAST MODERN LEAGUE
Join the West Coast Modern League at Gabriel Ross for a conversation about bespoke, natural landscapes with Bianca Bodley of Biophilia Design Collective and landscape architect Andrew van Egmond. As part of the League’s “On the Boards” series, turning focus to local designers carrying forward our strong history of design on Canada’s west coast, Bianca and Andrew will each speak about their projects recently completed or currently underway.
Working at a variety of project scales, Victoria-based Biophilia Design Collective, founded by Bianca Bodley, aims to design meaningful, resilient, and connected landscapes that enrich the lives of all users, cultivate moments of connection, create and nourish a sense of community, and support the ecological and cultural fabric within which they exist.
Known for his subtlety and minimalism, Saturna Island-based landscape architect Andrew van Egmond works on projects in Canada, The Netherlands, and internationally, drawing on the contrasts between landscape and architecture with the intention to allow the natural, intuitive beauty of the landscape the express itself and to enhance the connection with its surroundings by framing nature in a humble and minimalistic way.

on Canada’s west coast. Established in 2013, the League is an independent, Vancouver-based, non-profit society dedicated to celebrating, and advancing the understanding and appreciation of, architecture, urbanism, and design of the North American west coast, with a special focus on the southern coastal region of British Columbia. We are a volunteer-based organization, led by a Board of Directors composed of architects, curators, critics, and professionals, with a passion for west coast architecture and the allied arts.
